Field Surveyor IV (“Crew Chief”)
Field Surveyor IV is a leadership position within a surveying field crew having 3-5 years of experience performing boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction surveys. Their primary responsibility is to perform all types of field surveys within a surveying crew under the supervision of senior surveyors or the field coordinator. This position plays a crucial role in leading field surveying projects, collecting accurate field data, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a safe working environment. Their expertise and leadership contribute to the successful completion of surveying projects for property development, land management, and construction projects.
The position includes:
- Able to read, write, and communicate effectively to maintain optimal productivity with field and office staff.
- Working as a one-person field crew or other field personnel as a field party to ensure that survey tasks are completed accurately and efficiently for all types of field surveying from start to finish, in conditions.
- Reviews and understands written project requirements, executes survey work plans, specifications and instructions and considers all survey strategies to meet the task or project goals prior to performing the survey work.
- Adhering to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and other crew members. This includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety guidelines for working in potentially hazardous conditions.
- Maintains clear communication with project managers and office surveyors to update on the progress of field work and identifies and addresses challenges in the field.
- An understanding of the minimum requirements per regulations, written field survey procedures, protocols and typical standards of care. This includes double-checking measurements, identifying and resolving any potential errors or discrepancies, and maintaining quality control ensuring the accuracy and reliability of survey data by.
- Analyzing survey data and preparing written reports, maps, and other deliverables while in the field for clients and/or project stakeholders. Perform some office computations including preparation of construction computations, stakeout cutsheets, construction As-built Plans and land records research.
- Representing the company in the field and interacting with clients, landowners, and other project stakeholders as needed. This may involve providing work updates, answering questions, and addressing concerns related to assigned surveying tasks.
- Actively participating in the training and professional development of Field Surveyors I, II and III to enhance surveying skills and knowledge.
- Perform all duties of Field Surveyor I, II or III as needed.
- Able to work overtime hours as needed to fulfill project goals.
