Our private sector work includes a vast land development portfolio comprised of large mixed-use campuses, data centers, residential subdivisions, multi-family developments, retail, and industrial projects.

Gordon has a dedicated Water Resources Team, providing services in the following areas: stormwater management design, floodplain analysis and permitting, dam breach analysis and permitting, municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permitting, stormwater construction inspections, and stormwater operation and maintenance program.

This Opportunity

Gordon is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our Water Resources Team within our Chantilly, VA office to work on stormwater design projects supporting new and redevelopment projects.  All experience levels are encouraged to apply. A resume and cover letter are requested.

This individual would have the opportunity to work on all aspects of the Water Resources team services offerings.  This position offers excellent opportunities for professional growth in a work atmosphere that strives for excellence and emphasizes teamwork.

Technical Design Opportunities

  • Design all types of SWM facilities, including, but not limited to, bioretentions, green roofs, permeable pavements, stormwater ponds, manufactured treatment devices, and underground detention facilities in support of land development projects.
  • Develop and execute stormwater operation and maintenance programs for entities owning large SWM assets
  • Model and analyze local and FEMA floodplains for existing conditions and proposed alteration condition studies. This includes the opportunity to design large culvert/bridge crossings
  • Analyze and permit state regulated dams, including dam breach inundation studies, operation and maintenance permitting, alteration permits, emergency action plan development and execution, annual dam inspections, and other dam related activities
  • Other opportunities to gain general civil/land development experience

General Job Responsibilities

  • Production of final construction documents
  • Conduct site visits

  • Prepare technical reports
  • Research regulatory codes, manuals, and standards
  • Communicate effectively with team members
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • All experience levels are encouraged to apply
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or similar degree
  • Strong mathematical/analytical skills
  • Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills
  • Strong quality control skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Autocad

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training
  • Proficiency with ArcMap, or similar
  • Proficiency with H & H modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, Flowmaster, HEC-1, TR-20
